sign up without audition
Students wishing to be in UNIson or the University Choir DO NOT need to audition. They can simply register for the class with their counselor. UNIson is for beginning tenors and basses and University Choir is for all beginning voices.
Auditioning for an advanced choir
Students who wish to audition for an advanced ensemble must go through the May audition. This year, auditions will be held on May 14 & May 21, 2025. Advanced choirs include:
Canta Bella
Advanced treble ensemble for sopranos and altos going into 9-12th grade.
The repertoire includes traditional choral, classical, contemporary, gospel, vocal jazz and Broadway.
Vocal Eclipse
Intermediate/Advanced mixed ensemble for all vocal ranges going into 9-12th grade.
The repertoire includes pop, rock, vocal jazz, and Broadway.)
Madrigals
Advanced mixed ensemble for all voice ranges going into 10th-12th grade.
Singers must read music and be able to hold their own vocal part.
The repertoire includes traditional choral, classical, contemporary, gospel, vocal jazz, and Broadway.
the live audition
The live audition involves the following:
- Vocal Scales
- Singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat in a round with Mr. Blaney
- An acapella rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner in the key of your choice (beginning to the word "gleaming")
- A four-measure sight-singing exercise
- Three tonal memory exercises (Mr. Blaney plays five notes and you echo the notes back)
- Vocal Scales
